About Search Zimbabwe
A directory of Zimbabwean businesses that grew into a price-comparison catalogue and a marketplace — plus two sister sites for travel and for art.
What this is
Search Zimbabwe began as a business directory: a way to answer who does this, and where are they? It still does that, for hundreds of businesses and professionals across the country.
What it does now, in addition, is answer the harder question — who sells this exact thing, and for how much? Sellers price against a shared catalogue of products and services, so a bottle of a named drink is one entry that every shop quotes against rather than a hundred slightly different spellings. Prices are compared per unit, so a 2-litre bottle and a 500ml one can honestly be ranked against each other.
And where a seller wants to sell rather than just be found, there is a checkout: a basket, delivery quoted by destination, payment by mobile money or card, and the money held until the buyer confirms the goods arrived.
Three sites, one account
Some businesses are badly served by a general directory, so they get a site shaped around them. Your account, your handle and your listing are the same everywhere — a sister site is an additional shop window on a business we already know about, never a second profile to keep up to date.
- search.co.zw — the directory, the catalogue and the marketplace. This is where accounts live and where every purchase is completed.
- siesta.co.zw — travel, tourism and hospitality. Destinations, places to stay and eat, things to do, and requests to book.
- gallery.co.zw — photography and art. Portfolios, collections and original work for sale.
How we make money
Being listed and being found are free. We charge in three places, and we would rather state them plainly here than have you discover them:
- Listing extras — putting an item in front of more people (a promoted placement, a keyword, a featured advert) costs a few cents per item per period.
- Marketplace — a small flat fee per order, paid by the buyer, plus a commission on some categories that comes out of the seller's take. Every rate is shown before you list, and many categories carry no commission at all.
- Bookings on Siesta — a flat fee charged to the property when it confirms a stay. Guests pay the property directly; we never handle that money.
One thing we deliberately do not do: let payment change the order of a cheapest-first list. Promotion can affect what we show you when you have not asked for a specific ordering. It never reorders a price comparison, because that number is the entire point.
